Lumo Light Festival in Oulu

The city felt different that evening. Oulu in late November is usually quiet and dark, but during the Lumo Light Festival it slowly turns into something else. We walked through the streets without a plan, just following the glow from one installation to another. Light appeared in places you would normally pass without noticing, on building walls, across open spaces, even reflecting softly on the ground. It did not feel like an event that you attend, more like something you drift through.

Each stop had its own mood. Some were calm and almost meditative, while others drew small crowds standing still, watching the patterns change. There was no rush to move forward. People stayed a little longer than usual, taking it in. The cold was there, but it did not matter much. The light softened everything around it and made the night feel less heavy.

What stood out was how simple it all felt. No loud distractions, no need to explain anything. Just light, space, and people sharing the same moment in their own way. By the time we headed back, the city slowly returned to its usual quiet state, but the feeling stayed. It was one of those evenings that does not try to impress you, yet somehow stays with you longer than expected.
